Panama Sightseeing

Touring Panama on a sightseeing trip can be great fun.

There are must sees like the Canal and the City of Panama. You continue for surprising experiences like visiting an Indian tribe, enjoying the tropical jungle, going on the coffee trail with visits to plantations and enjoying a tasting of the world's best coffee. You can end at a real top luxury beach resort at the Pacific Coast.

Roads are modern and very safe. For the long distances we put a domestic flight. Travelling in Panama is relaxing and gives you all the possibility to enjoy the scenery. Hotel accommodations are of good standard with always a pool to freshen up at the end of the afternoon.

Day by day

  • Day 1

    You arrive at Panama Airport with your flight. The driver will be waiting for you and will take you to El Panama hotel on Via Espana in central Panama. The sea is right in in front and the whole Balboa boulevard. Neighborhoods like Casco Historico are just a short taxi ride from your accommodation. Taxis are not expensive in Panama.

  • Day 2

    Today you have a private tour with guide in English to visit the City of Panama through history. We start with a tour of Panama Viejo. It is a museum site with the ruins of what was the city's first foundation. There is an interesting museum that shows the atmosphere in this now abandoned 16th century town. We continue with a visit of the pre-Columbian jewelry factory Reprosa. You see something of the art of the original inhabitants of Panama. We have a typical Panamanian lunch at Maito's Restaurant. He is considered under the best cooks of Latin-America and offers us a table of 20 Panamanian specialties. You continue to the Colonial Casco Historico. Here surrounded by the sea the Spaniards have founded at the end of the 17th century a new town after they abandoned the first settlement Panama Viejo. The small alleys and colonial buildings will surely charm you and you surely will want to return there in your free time. The guide will take you the hidden corners and in colonial buildings you would not venture on your own.
    We end the day with a ride over Avenida Balboa, the present-day Panama of sky-scrapers and business activity. This is the image of Panama today, at the forefront of Latin-American modernity. Admire the spacious seafront boulevard and the "Tornillo" building in the back.
    Free evening. Your hotel is in the active nightlife area around the Via Argentina. But you can also go to the colonial center for a more stylish nightlife scene.

  • Day 3

    Today we have an extensive visit to the Panama Canal by actually transiting the canal on a boat. It will take you around 5 to 6 hours but you will go under the famous bridges "Puente de las Americas" and the "Centenario". You will go through the locks "Miraflores" and "San Miguel". You will transit the Culebra-pass which is the real part of the canal, cut out of the rocks. This ends in the Gatun Lake that is now a huge nature park but is an important part of the canal route.
    This is by far the best way to experience the Panama Canal and you get a certificate at the end to proof it.
    The rest of the day and evening is at leisure in the City.

  • Day 4

    Today you go out of the city to the nearby Chagres Nature Park. This is a green area of jungle near the Gatun Lake. You will visit a village of the Embera Tribe, original indigenous inhabitants of Panama when the Spaniards arrived in the 16th Century. They still live according to their ancient habits in close relation with nature. They will show you their life style, take you into the jungle in a canoe to a waterfall where you can swim. You will see how they prepare food and you will have a lunch just like them in their village. They will show you their artisanry before you head back to Panama City.
    The rest of the day and evening is at leisure in the City.

  • Day 5

    We take an early start with the train ride from Panama City to Colon. This 50-minutes ride is a historic one going along the shores of the Canal, through jungle and even on elevations over the Canal. You arrive in the city of Colon on the Atlantic side. So, this is a train ride from Ocean to Ocean, unique in the world.
    With our driver-guide we continue to San Lorenzo Castle. To get there we cross a beautiful jungle park. The Castle, Patrimony of Mankind by Unesco, lies in the middle of forest at the mouth of the Chagres river. It has a typical structure to defend the river against pirate attacks. The scenery is great and the castle is partly restored to add to the ambience. You have a picknick lunch on the spot.
    In the afternoon we return by car to Panama City and go straight to the National Airport of Albrook to take a flight to the city of David, almost at the border with Costa Rica. Here we have transfer to our hotel: Hotel Bambito by Faranda Boutique. It is a small-scale hotel in a green area very near to the road to Volcan Baru.

  • Day 6

    The area of Boquete is famous for harvesting the best coffee in the world, the geisha-coffee. This kind of coffee is internationally the most expensive coffee sold. Especially in Asia connoisseurs are crazy about it and drink it almost as a tea. We will visit one of the fincas or farms where they cultivate them to see up-close the process. We will also have a tasting or "cata" of several kinds of coffee and preparations so you taste it and learn to savor it. We will continue to Boquete village for a visit of this mountain town. We will have a light stroll in the woods to feel a bit the jungle.
    Return to our hotel Bambito in Chiriqui near Volcan Baru. This volcano is quite extinct but you can see the summit on a bright day.

  • Day 7

    The morning is at leisure in Chiriqui. If you want to go for hike in the mountains there are several trails of different level to choose from. It is a great opportunity to do bird watching or just to enjoy the tropical nature of the area.
    In the afternoon we have the 4 hours' ride to Chitre on the Pacific Coast in the Peninsula of Azueros. This is traditional Panamanian country full of the colonial farmers folklore. It is an agricultural area and you find yourself deep into the Panamanian soul.
    We overnight at the Cubita eco-hotel near Chitre town including breakfast.

  • Day 8

    Today we visit the area to get to know the local way of life. A great stop is at the Rum Distillery San Isidro. On arrival you have a tour of the sugarcane fields in a oxen cart, just like the farmers in the old days. You visit the distillery to see the whole process from sugar cane till rum. You visit the impressive warehouses and will even have a tasting of the local rums to learn the differences and how to savor them at best. You'll have a surprising lunch elaborated with old rums.
    You have time in the village of Chitre in the afternoon.

  • Day 9

    Today you have a boat trip (on collective basis) to the island Iguana, uninhabited island with pristine beaches and great snorkeling opportunities. A pick nick lunch is included. Just enjoy this day on the beach, in nature, on the sea.

  • Day 10

    Today we drive to the beach area of Playa Larga. On the way we make a nice stop in the township of Nata de los Caballeros. This town is one of the first to be founded by the Spaniards in the American continent. It has a very old church: the "Basilique of Santiago the Apostle". Of course, we visit the church and feel a bit of the colonial ambience of the center.
    We continue to our beach resort Playa Blanca in Rio Hato. This is one of the best-known all-inclusive resorts of Panama thanks to its great location in front of a stretch of white sand beach and for having one of the biggest pools in the world. It is an all-inclusive resort so all drinks and meals are included on the premises.
    You stay here 3 nights to just relax and enjoy the pool, beach and all-inclusive.

  • Day 11-12

    Time free for all-inclusive beach and pool relaxation.

  • Day 13

    According to your flight we put you transfer to the airport of Panama Tocumen.
